Brian Krebs
Investigative Journalist and Author, KrebsOnSecurity.com
Brian Krebs is the writer of the cybercrime blog Krebs on Security, covering a dark corner of the Internet: profit-seeking cybercriminals, who make billions off pharmaceutical
sales, malware, spam, frauds and heists like the recent ones that Mr. Krebs was first to uncover at Ashley Madison, Adobe, Target and Home Depot.
It wasn’t until 2001 — when his entire home network was overrun with the Lion Worm by a Chinese hacking group, not once but twice, that he became intensely interested in computer
security. After that incident, Krebs decided to learn as much as he could about computers and Internet security, and read everything on the subject. It’s an obsession that hasn’t
let up. Eventually, his curiosity turned into a full-time beat at The Post and then on his own blog.
Krebs, a former reporter for The Washington Post from 1995 to 2009, has been profiled in The New York Times, Business Week, NPR, The Economist, USA Today and The Guardian. According to
The New York Times, "few have done more to shed light on the digital underground than Mr. Krebs."
He holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies from George Mason University and lives with his wife in Northern Virginia. Much of his knowledge about computers and Internet security
comes from having cultivated regular and direct access to some of the smartest and most ‘clueful’ geeks on the planet. The rest, he says, probably comes from a willingness to take risks,
make mistakes, and learn from them.
